OUR RESEARCH

PHASE 1

The initial phase of the research project involved us speaking with both NSW Firefigthters and members of culturally-diverse community groups to gather insights into the effectiveness of current communication processes and practices.

Interviews - semi-structured interviews with selected FRNSW qualified firefighters were conducted between December 2022 and January 2023. These interviews explored 4 main themes: reach, relevance, receptiveness, and relationships. 

Focus Group Discussions - initial community consultation workshops were held between November and December 2022 with Arabic-speaking, Chinese-speaking, Vietnamese-speaking and Kurmanji-speaking community groups from NSW.

PHASE 2

The final phase of the research project involved the development and testing of a proof-of-concept fire prevention and education smartphone app prototype, Ready, Set, Go!

​

User Testing Workshops - 3 x user research and testing sessions were conducted between July and September 2023.

OUTPUTS:

This research project has been funded by the NSW Reconstruction Authority Disaster Risk Reduction Fund.

 

This study has been approved by the University of Technology Sydney Human Research Ethics Committee guidelines (UTS HREC reference number ETH22-7460).
